In 2020, Sanyi the rooster escapes from the market in the Hungarian city of Békéscsaba. For four years, he lives like a king in the town square, cherished by the inhabitants, a symbol of hope. Sanyi unites the community, until his mysterious death breaks the bond and gives way to suspicion and polarization.
The graduation film I shot for my bachelors in Cinematography at the Dutch national film academy. For this documentary project, we were able to film for two weeks in Eastern Hungary. A very special project for me.
